Omega-3 for Those With Borderline Personality Disorder

Monday October 15, 2007

There is some evidence that omega-3 fatty acids can be beneficial for those with borderline personality disorder.

Omega-3 fatty acids are known to have numerous health benefits - both to physical and mental health. The study cited above found that the borderline personality symptoms of aggression and depressions were positively impacted during a 8-week clinical trial of Omega-3 versus a placebo.

This does NOT mean that anyone should suddenly take it upon themselves to treat their symptoms with Omega-3 supplements, but perhaps does mean that nutritional needs and options should be addressed with your treatment team. Remember that supplements can negatively affect medications that you may be taking so please be sure to consult with your doctor before adding omega-3 to your current medication regimen.
