World Suicide Prevention Day

Wednesday September 10, 2008

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day -- a day held each year on September 10th to increase global awareness of suicide as a preventable cause of death. The theme for this year's event, "Think Globally. Plan Nationally. Act Locally." is an opportunity for anyone who has been touched by suicide to think about how to get involved in suicide prevention efforts.

The World Health Organization estimates that each year about one million people die by suicide around the globe. That means there is a death by suicide every two minutes. If you are interested in learning more about what you can do to prevent suicide, visit the International Association for Suicide Prevention website.
