Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder Improves Family Life
A new study has found that, not surprisingly, treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) doesn't just help the person with BPD, it may also help their family members.
Dr. Friederike Gerull and colleagues at the University of Sydney and the New South Wales Institute of Psychiatry found that patients with BPD who received a type of treatment called the Conversational Model (a psychodynamic treatment for BPD) reported better relationships with their children and partners after treatment, whereas a group who received treatment-as-usual did not show these improvements.
