Email Your Guide to BPD
Like all the guides at About.com, I am a real person. You can email me at bpd.guide@about.com.
F.A.Q.
- Q. Can I ask medical advice by contacting you?
- A. It would be unethical of me to give medical advice or psychological treatment through email. If you are looking for treatment for borderline personality disorder, there are a number of resources available to help guide your search.
- Q. I am in a crisis. What should I do?
- A. If you are having an emergency (e.g., you are in danger of harming yourself or someone else), call 911 immediately (if you are in the U.S. or Canada) or go to your nearest emergency room. Do not use this email address in the case of an emergency or crisis situation.
- Q. Are there any topics that are off limits?
- A. While I treat information disclosed to me in a confidential manner, there are exceptions to this rule; I am required by law to report any information pertaining to the abuse and/or neglect of an elderly person, a child, or a disabled person. I must report abuse even if it happened in the past, if the person who committed the abuse is deceased, or if the victim of the abuse is now an adult. Also, please remember that email is not secure; others can intercept information you send in an email.
- Q. How long will it take until I get a response?
- A. I try very hard to answer emails as quickly as possible, usually within one or two business days. However, there may be times that I am unavailable by email for longer periods (for example, if I am on vacation).
