Definition:

Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder characterized by episodes of mania and depression. The disorder is further classified as:

  • Bipolar 1 with severe mood swings,
  • Bipolar 2 with milder episodes of mania and depression
  • Mixed bipolar disorder with mania and depression at the same time

This disorder is sometimes evident in children, but most often is diagnosed in early adulthood.
