Definition:

Neurotransmitters are chemicals found in the central nervous system that transmit impulses between neurons and other cells allowing cells to communicate with one another.

There are over 50 identified neurotransmitters. Each one impacts specific brain functions such as wakefulness, emotional regulation, body temperature, and impulse control.
