Definition:

To validate something is confirm it.

It is important for a person, especially a for a child, to have their feelings and experiences validated by others. The lack of validation can result in the development of feelings of guilt and shame as a reaction to negative experiences.

Often people with BPD have a history of not being validated as a child.
