Is there a borderline personality test? For years I've struggled with mental health problems, but I didn't know what was wrong with me. Then, a few weeks ago, a friend mentioned the borderline personality disorder (BPD) diagnosis. I read about it, and all of the symptoms seem to fit with my problems. I want to take a test and find out if I do have borderline personality.
Unfortunately, there is no borderline personality test that will tell you definitively if you meet diagnostic criteria for borderline personality disorder (BPD). BPD is a complicated diagnosis to make, even for a seasoned clinician. BPD is frequently confused with other disorders, such as bipolar disorder, and the symptoms can be masked by other conditions (e.g., depression) that frequently co-occur with BPD.
The only way to know for sure if you have BPD is to see a qualified mental health professional and have a formal diagnostic assessment. This is probably not what you wanted to hear -- many people are nervous about seeing a professional and would prefer the go it alone. But, getting professional help is essential for people struggling with the symptoms of BPD, and it is the only way to get a conclusive diagnosis and get on track for recovery.
