Definition:
A binge eating episode involves eating a larger quantity of food than most people would normally eat in a short period of time. Usually, when engaged in binge eating, the person feels that the eating is out of their control.
Binge eating is most commonly associated with bulimia nervosa, but it can also be present in anorexia nervosa (binge-eating/purging type). Binge eating is also sometimes present in borderline personality disorder (BPD).
