Definition:

Residential Treatment refers to the extended stay facilities with intensive services, often focused at a specific population.

These are less intensive that inpatient facilities such as hospitals as the treatment is longer term. Patients stay at residential facilities that usually have rules and regulations that facilitate the safety of patients and promote their movement towards independence.

Residential treatment stays can range from a few weeks to several months. Insurance coverage for this level of care varies.
